    Registration

    Please ensure you have the following ready before beginning the registration process;

    1. The name of the class(es) to be entered (check with your teacher)

    2. The title, composer, and exact length of the piece(s) being entered. Please time the pieces being played by the performer. Don’t take the length from the sheet music itself as tempos vary.

    3. Your teacher’s Music Festival Suite teacher ID (eg. ENT00001)

No, you do not need separate profiles if you are involved in the festival in more than one role. At the time of creating a new profile you may check any roles that apply to you at the time. You can also add or remove roles from your profile by clicking on “Edit Profile” and (un)check any roles that may apply.

When you are adding such information to your Profile ID or Registration you must enter that person's Profile ID number (ie: ENT00XXX) not their name.

You may make changes to your repertoire at any point up until the registration deadline of March 4th .

No the deadline is final. When registration closes, timings will be finalized for scheduling performances based on the adjudicator and venue's availability.

No additional entries will be accepted after the deadline passes.

    Payments

Payments are by PayPal only. Registration is not considered complete until payment in full, through PayPal is also completed.

Once you’ve completed the process for the first class, you can return to the list of classes within that discipline, or go back to the syllabus to add more.

You will only need to create the account once. If you have multiple musicians to register, you have the opportunity to link additional children to your account. There must be a separate registration for each class entered, but they can all accumulate in one ‘cart’.

Once a registration has been submitted your fee is non refundable except where the entry is rejected by the board.

The Highlights Concert will be video recorded by the staff at the Isabel Bader Centre for Performing Arts.

Volunteers appointed by the Kingston Kiwanis Music Festival will take photographs for use on our website, social media, and newsletter.

If media consent has not been provided (this is done within your Music Festival Suite profile) photos or video recordings will not be published.

Our festival does not require tickets or charge an entry fee during the festival.

At the Highlights Concert admission is by donation; we do not sell tickets or require an entry fee.

    Music

Repertoire selections must be entered to complete your registration. However, you will be able to make changes to your repertoire selections up to March 4th.

If your selections are not yet confirmed, you may also register and list your piece as "TBD" but this must be updated before the end of the registration period.

After March 4th any changes must be sent to our Registrar Joan Knox joan.kkmf@gmail.com for approval. Please try to enter accurate playing times for your repertoire selection, and be mindful when requesting a repertoire change that the new selection should be of a similar length.

For festival planning purposes, we have many resources to create including schedules, adjudicator report templates, and more. Making changes takes considerable time and can result in errors which cause confusion and delays during the festival.

Depending on the class, adjudicators also receive repertoire in advance of the festival so they can become familiar with pieces or works they may have not heard before, or have limited experience with (in particular, but not limited to Pop Categories).

Providing accurate repertoire lists is a professional courtesy we wish to extend to our adjudicators.

A performer must provide original full scores or text for the Adjudicator. Full original scores or texts should be presented to the front desk at check-in.

Yes, receipts are required for digitally purchased sheet music. Please print the receipt or show proof of purchase on your phone.

Cover pages, or your teacher's name printed on the bottom of the page of music is NOT considered a receipt as it does not confirm proof of purchase.

If a competitor cannot secure the original music or if the music is out of print, for clarification please contact our registrar Joan Knox at joan.kkmf@gmail.com.

The first measure (bar) in each system on the music must be numbered for the adjudicator on the original score.

All categories must have live accompaniment (except pieces written specifically as unaccompanied / acappella works).

If the class requires accompaniment, or, if a piece has a written accompaniment, then it must be played. However, if a piece is written specifically without accompaniment, then an accompanist is not required for that piece.

Please see the Popular Voice Rules or FAQs for information specific to this discipline.

Competitors requiring an accompaniment for their pieces must provide and if applicable, pay for their accompanist.

All selections must be at the competitor’s current level of study, unless otherwise specified.

Performers who have taken an RCM or Conservatory Canada Exam in the preceding year are not eligible to enter that grade level in the current festival year (e.g. If a performer took the level 4 piano exam in 2023, they may not enter grade 4 classes in the 2024 festival.)

If a performer enters at more than one level, adjudicators may only consider the pieces in the higher level when choosing provincial candidates.

This Competition is open to all orchestral instruments and piano.

Yes, receipts are required for digitally purchased sheet music. Please provide receipts for digitally purchased music.
